Prepare the Table
Prepare, Prepare, Prepare……..
Prepare what? The Christmas table for my family who demand an abundance of processed food, comfort cuisines, entertainment, and oh yes of course family time. I’m making a list of things to purchase, order, wrap, and hang for an amazing Christmas celebration. I’m preparing and preparing, only to have that one piece of dry chicken or stale chip ruin the whole atmosphere. Trust me, I’ve seen a fight break out over a chicken nugget in my family. True story.
Psalm 23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies….
Where does this scripture fit into the holiday season……
King David wrote this Psalm, thanking God for his provision in his darkest hours. God had provided everything David needed in the good times and the bad times of life. There is no sign of a juicy prime rib in the verse to satisfy, but there is a table.
Prepare the table……
The table represents the provision that God provides us in the midst of life. Divorce, job loss, death, fear, financial burdens, broken relationships, rebellion of a child, opposition, and tragedy. God will prepare a table, a holy place in our hearts that satisfies every aspect of our lives. Only he can provide and prepare a table in the midst of chaos and confusion. Your best desert will never do. Ha!
There is a table in each one of our homes (hearts). Allow the love of God with us (Jesus) to prepare your table in this season. May the place settings of hope, love, peace, forgiveness, restoration, renewal, joy, and revival show up at your table.
